Links

These are a few of the links I refer to, including several blogs of people who are doing something roughly similar, and are on the road around the same time as me. Easier for me than trying to remember them all, since I'm using new computers every day, and don't have my bookmarks

The Flashpackers - they've moved up in the world, think that backpacking is not good enough anymore. Two friends of mine, they spent the second half of 2007 travelling around South America. Now the International Women of Mayhem live on different continents, but soon enough they'll be back together, causing...mayhem

Scott and Monique - Scott's an old university friend, who now lives in Canada. And now he's engaged to Monique! Congratulations.

Round the World By Bike - not the first person to ride around the world, but one of the most hardcore. Al's site started me getting interested in this crazy stuff.

On Your Bike - Thorntree branch dedicated to bike touring - heaps of useful advice.

Jan Slatter. Rode with Jan around eastern Turkey/Iran, then met up again in Turkmenistan, before taking different paths. We then met up again in Malaysia, and rode down to Singapore together. Now he's like me, doing the normal life thing for a little while, before tackling the next trip.

Keith Craig's blog. Rode a few weeks with Keith around Turkey/Iran - now taken different paths towards Beijing. He's gone about twice as far as me, and did Australia the much harder way - Darwin -> Broome -> Perth -> Adelaide -> Sydney. He also shows that those 65 year olds who tell me they'd love to do it have no excuse. Keith was too fast a rider for me - I think he's powered by beer.

Worldbiker - travelling the world in search of fish. A couple more cyclists a little bit behind me, following the long road east

Heather - Beijing to Istanbul. I met Heather in Kyrgyzstan, as we crossed paths - she's going the other way to me. Provided some useful support when I was dealing with the fallout of having my passport stolen.

Justin and Olivia. Met Olivia and Justin in Bishkek, while they were getting Uzbek visas - again, they're going the other way, so they could give me lots of useful info for China

Andy Waddington. Andy and Jarrett raced across Europe, and set some speed records across Central Asia to Tibet.

A Long Ride Home. Have been following Peter's trip for quite a while, as he slowly moves west. Love the photography and comments. He was on the road well before I started, and then he's still going after I reached home. Showing how small and incestuous the world of bike touring is, I rode with Tim in Laos, who had spent three months riding around India with Pete a year earlier. Weird.

Marija Kozin. Now switched to a recumbent for the ride back home from China. After a knee operation, she's back on the road.

Yann and Emilie. I spent a long time in Bishkek, but luckily I had some really great company! I really need to go to Canada, to meet more great people like this.
