The Route

This is a rough outline of my trip - I'll get some maps sorted out later with more detail.

From Greenwich, England, I crossed over to northern France, then went into Belgium for a few days, then across Luxembourg, before entering Germany. I followed several rivers across Germany - the Moselle, Neckar and Kocher mainly - before joining the Danube at Donauworth. From there I joined the Danube bike path, and followed it all the way to Budapest. From there I went southeast across Hungary, and into Romania, before rejoining the Danube for a little while at the border. I crossed the Danube for the last time at Ruse (Bulgaria), and from there headed south on the E85 to the Turkish border. From there it was in to Istanbul.

From Turkey I went to Iran, travelling as far south as Shiraz, before heading back up, and across to Mashhad. From there I entered Turkmenistan, taking the slightly longer option passing through Ashgabat, and on to Uzbekistan. There I met a man who told me to go north, so I skipped the Pamirs, and went up through Kyrgyzstan to Bishkek, and then across the border to Kazakhstan. Through Almaty, and into China. I rode all the way across to Beijing, via Xi'an, then turned south, visiting Qingdao and Shanghai on the way to Hong Kong. Then across to Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, down through Thailand to Malaysia and Singapore!

I flew from Singapore to Darwin, and rode straight down via Alice Springs to Adelaide. Then across to Melbourne, and a flight to Auckland. I took it easy over three days riding up to Whangarei, and home. 29,511km.

Easy.

I've configured a bunch of co-ordinates into a Google Earth KML file. If you don't already have Google Earth, download it, and then open this file with it, to see my planned path. If you don't have Google Earth, check out these screenshots:

Those shots/KML file were for my originally planned route. It changed a bit along the way. I'll try and get those updated shortly.
